“Strive for Equality”

"Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality.” (2 Corinthians 8:13)

Paul held up the generosity of the Macedonian churches to those in Corinth (2 Co. 8). It seemed his desire was that they show some kind of proof for their appreciation of the Lord's blessing and sustaining power to them. He urged them, therefore to bring to completion the great work begun earlier in their ministry. It seemed apparent they had forgotten, like we often do, with what fervor and fire they had started to serve the Lord with.

The Great Giveaway

The Gospel of St. John says that love comes from God.  The person who loves knows God.  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Since the earliest days of the Church love has been the heart of Christian practices. Jesus said that we must love our neighbor as ourselves and that what ever we do to the least of our brothers and sisters, we do to him.

Guided by the Holy Spirit, Jesus' disciples put aside self-interest and personal gain in order to continue loving and giving as he would have them do.  For God, loving is giving.  Just look at how much He loved.  Just look at how much He gave.

You Are Somebody

Use your talents.  If you think you are a nobody, you are wrong.  The sustaining truth for those who play roles in the shadows is a simple and important one, namely: In the economy of God, Nature’s nobodies are somebodies.

The question is now how well do you rate on the economic or status scale, but rather, how well do you use the talents and powers that are yours?  Most of the work of the world is done by men and women in the shadows, by the nameless heroes of everyday life.
