Notes and News January 3

An Offering Prayer
Dear heavenly Father, it has been a privilege to do some think-ing on Christian giving. You are a great and powerful God. You have given me everything I am and everything I ever hope to be. Father, help me be a sacrificial giver and to accent the percentage more than the dollar figure. Help me do this despite any feelings of my sinful flesh to the contrary. I want to be a good giver, a happy giver, and I want to love bringing my gifts to You. I want to honor You not just with my living but also with my giving. Help me now to make my commitment with joy and help me to fulfill it. Thank You, Father. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Take a Trip
Today in our Bible Adventures  we look at Jesus in the Temple as recorded in Luke 2:41-52.  Next Sunday we investigate the bap-tism of Jesus from Luke 3:15-22.

Correction
We make mistakes.  We need to correct a mistake with the poin-settias.  We want to acknowledge a gift of flowers from Duane and Nancy Krause.  They were given in memory of Meta L. Gilg and Frank and Neomi Krause. We ap-preciate their gift and apologize for our mistake.

Altar Flowers – In praise and thanksgiving to God, the chancel flowers are given by the Effertz family.  We thank them for their kindness.

Offerings
We want to remind members that with the new year we invite all to use the offering envelopes designated for 2010.  Since the numbers change, we want every-one to get proper credit for their gifts.

Portals of Prayer
Our new devotional booklets are now available for the new year in the narthex.  If you have not yet begun, this may be the op-portunity for a new start of daily meditation and prayer.  God is certain to bless those who spend time with him daily.

Thank You
Pastor and Gail would like to thank all the members for their cards and gifts.  Your generosity is truly appreciated.

Woops!
A girl made several visits to a soldier recovering from wounds in a veterans' hospital. To get permission for the visit, since only relatives were allowed to see him, she passed herself off as his sister. One day as she came for a visit she walked up boldly to an elderly lady who she thought must be the new lady in charge of that ward. "May I see Lieutenant Barker, please?"
The lady inquired, "May I ask who you are?"
The girl replied, "Certainly. I am his sister."
"Well, well," said the elderly lady, "I'm glad to know you. I'm his mother."
