Note & News for November 29

Happy New Year!

Today we begin a new church year.   The first season of the Church Year is Advent, beginning four weeks before the celebration of Christmas. The word advent means arrival. We reflect on his three arrivals: the birth of Jesus, his coming to us today, and his return at the end of time.

Jesus came long ago in poverty. About 2000 years ago a son was born into this world—to young parents in an old, historic town called Bethlehem, in an occupied territory called Judah. Only the boy's family knew then that Jesus was God's gift—his Son, who was destined to die as the Lamb of God, our Savior.

Jesus comes today in hope and peace. Today our Savior, Jesus, comes to our world in humble shape, too—in fellow believers, in the Word of the Lord we hear preached, and in the bread and wine of his Supper. He acts in and through us to influence our world for good.

Jesus will come in power. One day Jesus will return to live among his people, no longer in our poverty or humble appearance, but sharing with us the strength and beauty and goodness of our God for all eternity.

Our common Advent prayer is: Come, Lord Jesus.

Off to Babylon
We invite all to join us for Bible Adventures.  We meet in the sanctuary following our morning fellowship.  Today Pastor will provide a presentation on the account of Esther through an overview of the Old Testament book of Esther.  Next Sunday we have our Annual Voters Meeting scheduled instead of Bible Adventures.

Celebrating the Season
Our new banner which matches our paraments has arrived.  We add our banner on the back wall.  This will help us celebrate our season of Advent.

We wish to add one more banner to our collection, a red one for Pentecost and Reformation.  This will make our set complete.  Memorial gifts are welcome.

Be in the Know
Our newsletters for December are now available in the newsstand in the narthex.  All are invited to take a copy for yourself and one to share with a friend.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Each week we send out our Notes and News to those on our e-mail list.  You can be added by indicating it on your attendance card.  You may also find copies for the month at our church web site: www.christlutheranbc.org.
